Native to the Maluku Islands, Indonesia. Now also cultivated in Madagascar, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, and India. Cloves are the dried flowers of the clove tree, harvested before they bloom. They are dark brown to black in color with a distinctive, strong aroma. They are used as a spice, traditional medicine, and also in the Indonesian kretek cigarette industry.
